(Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) ECMO and CPR for Covid Patients

By  Dr. Mike Hansen

The average length of mechanical ventilation for patients with COVID who have ARDS is 17 days. For some patients, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) is a last-ditch effort that involves taking blood out of the body, oxygenating that blood, removing carbon dioxide from that blood, and returning that blood to the body.

Also, during this pandemic, when an Adult COVID patient has a cardiac arrest (their heart stops), should health care workers perform CPR (ACLS) on them? This is a controversial topic that needs to be addressed.
